As We Celebrate

By Trudi Evans

It was thanksgiving in the USA yesterday. In solidarity (ha ha), I roasted a turkey and invited a friend to join my family and we all had  a nice dinner. I dont' think I can celebrate thanksgiving too many times in a year.

This weekend kicked off the holiday season for many of us. My question to you is: how do you celebrate?

My favourite Christmas was when I lived with my husband, prior to getting married. We had a nice, centrally located apartment. At the time, he worked at a hotel and lots of his coworkers were from other parts fo the country and could not go home for Christmas. In fact, most of them were working Christmas day.

We didn't have much, but we knew we could make dinner. So we put out the invitation and as people finished work, they came by and had a plate of turkey and sides, some wine, some laughs. We hauled in our patio furniture to accommodate everyone. People brought wine and sweets to contribute and the door opened and closed all day and all evening long. We had an absolute blast.

Back then, we began a tradition of starting Christmas morning with popping a bottle of bubbly open outside and then coming in to make mimosas. Now, our door opens and closes all day, starting with mimosas - we still have an open door policy on Christmas. Just stop by. Have a drink, put your feet up.

This year we're going to do something new - we're not going to have turkey for dinner. I have no idea what we'll have yet, so this is what I want to know from you: what do you celebrate?  How do you celebrate it? Tell your stories! If they are short, publish them in the comments. If you'd like to write more, This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it it to me and I'll publish your stories.
